Please have a look at this rare pair of medals done in the style of the Modern Prize Jewellery tokens and medals. These rare pieces are handmade of bronze, silver and gold. Both medallic strands weigh 114 grams for a combined total weight of 228 grams. Each piece measures about 19.5 inches. This beautiful set is exquisitely fashioned and is almost certainly unique. These medals are believed to date from the 1930’s. Here is a list of the elements which comprise this ultra rare set. Liberty Head Double Eagle styled medals. All of these pieces appear to be cast in an unknown metal, most likely bronze, and plated in yellow gold. Each is housed in an ornate, gold plated bezel. Bezels are believed to be made of bronze. The many bezel settings in this set display intricate designs which feature counterstamps, peacocks and Lotus flowers. One cast medal done in the style of a U. Medal is also housed in an elaborate, gold plated bezel. Three bezeled Straits Settlements silver coins. The reverse sides of these coins display hand carved depictions of birds. 74 small medals and half medals done in the style of the Modern Prize Jewellery pieces. None of the medals carry that moniker but they strongly resemble known Liberty Head examples. One type is dated 1927 and carries the reverse motto A. SILVER MEDAL FOR JEWELLERY. The other type is dated 1934 and carries a similar motto which includes the word INDIA. A small test mark on one of the half medals indicates that these pieces are indeed silver, or at least silver colored metal. Please view pictures 8 and 9 to examine the detail on these types. Nearly all surfaces on both of these medallic strands are plated in yellow gold. Medals display strong detail and a lustrous gold color. Both strands look to be almost completely intact, with only a few small pieces missing here and there. Please view pictures to determine condition and attribution for yourself.
